It’s a well-known fact that exercising and moving your body releases serotonin and endorphins that boost your mood. But what else?
Getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day can help with concentration and alertness. Essentially, you are waking up your brain, getting your heart rate up and your blood pumping. This means we have more potential to perform better at work, or whatever goals you had set for the day.
Exercising improves your self-esteem and confidence. Working towards a fitness goal makes you feel more accomplished, and if this is an appearance-based goal, seeing your hard work pay off will make you feel amazing. Not only will it improve body confidence, but it will help to show you that you have the capability to try new things and get good at them.
Physical activity improves your sleep cycles. It’s important to get a decent amount of sleep every night, and this will drastically affect your mood the next day. Better sleep- better state of mind. Exercising relieves muscle tension which helps you to relax.
Importantly, exercise can make you feel more a part of a community. Connecting with others on a similar journey as you will greatly improve your mental health. It also motivates you to do better if you are surrounded by like-minded individuals. Joining local classes or teams is a great way to make friends.
Exercising outdoors in sunlight and fresh air is also directly linked to better mental health. See our blog post on How to Improve Your Energy Levels Naturally for more information on how the sun can be our friend when it comes to mental health!
