Why am I so tired all the time?

These Habits Might be Draining Your Energy Without you Realising

These days it seems like everyone is asking, why am I so tired all the time? Low energy can affect your mood, and performance at work or study, and have a negative impact on your relationships with the people around you. While this could be because of the obvious lack of sleep, there may be some other hidden energy zappers in your life that you might not even be aware of. So, why are you so tired all the time?

Caffeine, while being known as an energy booster, may also be draining your energy. When caffeine is consumed we instantly become more alert and feel more energised. But, this is simply a quick fix, and once the caffeine in your system wears off, it can make you feel even more tired than you were originally. Too much caffeine can also cause insomnia and mess with your sleeping patterns, therefore continuing the cycle of low energy.

Sugar is similar to this. When we consume sugar we feel instantly energised, it’s what many people call a ‘sugar rush’. Much like caffeine, this wears off pretty quickly. Sugar creates a chemical called Orexin in the brain, which is what gives you that high level of energy straight after eating a sugary snack and drinking a soft drink, but your body needs to use up more energy to absorb this sugar, and that’s why you’re eventually left feeling even more tired than before.

Instead of caffeine or sugar, try a more natural energy supplement, like a snack high in protein. Alternatively, our Cleanfit Plant Energy Bars are very effective in giving you that extra energy kick, as they are high in protein and other good nutrients!

Dehydration may also play a huge part in draining your energy. If your body is lacking in oxygen and nutrients we usually get from water, that means that not enough of these nutrients is going to your cells and is making your body feel weak. Drinking water is even more important than eating food, so make sure you’ve always got a water bottle handy and that you are consuming the recommended ten glasses of water a day!

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed can mentally exhaust us. Being disorganised and surrounded by clutter means that the glucose in your brain is being used up by other tasks rather than assisting in maintaining your energy throughout the day. Spreading yourself too thin with work and other commitments, as well as being overworked and stressed can cause you to feel mentally and physically drained. Check out our post on Four Tips That Changed my Stress Levels Forever for some advice on how to combat this.

If you’ve decided to change some of these bad habits and find that you’re still feeling tired all the time, there may be an underlying medical cause like iron deficiency. If your tiredness persists, seek professional medical advice. No one can function being tired all the time, I know I definitely can’t. Take the initiative to make some changes to your daily routines and habits that we have discussed, and hopefully, you’ll find your energy levels are back to normal and you’re not feeling so tired all the time even when you shouldn’t be.
