Why is healthy eating so hard?

For some of us, the decision to start eating healthy can be a huge change from our normal eating habits. Lifestyle changes aren’t always easy, and it takes self-discipline and perseverance for them to work. Here’s why, for some, healthy eating can be so hard:

A huge part of a healthy dies is eating organic and free range foods. This is because organic food is less likely to have harmful chemicals, preservatives, and pesticides. It’s true that organic ingredients can be more expensive. To remedy this, try buying in bulk or keep an eye out for when certain things go on sale so you can stock up for cheaper. Eating fruits and vegetables in general is more important than eating organic fruits and vegetables, so if you need to cut corners then go for it.

Fast food has become so cheap and accessible, it can be really easy to give in to the convenience of it more often than we should be. Remember that the extra bit of time and money you are putting in to making a healthy meal will positively impact your health in the future. Remember your goals and keep promises to yourself.

Breaking negative eating patterns can be really difficult if they are something that you have been used to for most of your life. Your body is used to certain routines and it can sometimes come as a shock when these routines are broken. People often complain that eating healthy is too difficult or they don’t enjoy eating healthy foods, and this may be because they’ve gone too hard too fast.

It is more beneficial to ease yourself in to a healthy diet: start by making small changes, and work your way up from there. Slowly incorporate new fruits and veggies in to your everyday routine, switch from a commercial brand to an organic one and see how you go. Don’t force yourself to eat things you don’t enjoy, this will only lead to a negative experience of healthy eating and will mean you won’t want to continue trying. Healthy eating often takes up more cooking time, especially if you’re trying to make certain things from scratch. This is where meal-prepping may help. By batch cooking some yummy, healthy meals, you’ll be able to enjoy them whenever you please. If this seems like too much for you, you could even start off with healthy microwave meals to ease in to things slowly. If you are finding it difficult to start eating healthy, do your research and seek professional advice if needed, there’s no shame in asking for help to get started.
