Health benefits of MATCHA

What is Matcha?

Matcha has been around for centuries as part of Japanese culture and tradition. Monks have reaped the energy, concentration and wellness benefits and hail it a precious medicine for health and longevity. This beautiful green powder is basically just green tea leaves grounded into a fine powdered form. Matcha drinkers dissolve the whole leaf in water and consume it all along with a side of fabulous green goodness.

  • Matcha bushes are grown under a special shade for three to four weeks, this process increases chlorophyll, caffeine and amino acids (like L-theanine) levels and in turn a deeper color of green is produced.
  • Stems and veins of the leaf are removed during the handpicking process.
  • These leaves are laid out flat to dry, once dried they are stone ground into fine powder = Matcha. This process is quite slow, as the mill stones can’t get too warm, or the aroma of the leaves can seep.

How is Matcha different from Green Tea?

Green tea leaves are brewed in hot water and then thrown out afterwards. Matcha powder is a concentrated form of green tea, which has up to 137 times more antioxidants and is 10 times more nutritious than green tea. To make the antioxidant and chlorophyll pop in matcha tea leaves it’s grown under special shades to increase these levels.

Why should you drink it?

These are just a few amazing benefits that Matcha can help boost…

  • Immunity – Due to the antioxidant content it can help boost the immune system and fight free radicals in the body that can contribute to inflammation, tissue damaging and aging.
  • Metabolism – catechins is a particular antioxidant, also known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is known to help enhance metabolism. Matcha has up to 137 times more EGCs than green tea contains.
  • Focus – Amino acid galore and with the standout being L-theanine – stimulates alpha wave production in the brain, creating relaxation and concentration at the same time, providing alertness without the shakes and jitteriness like coffee.
  • Energy – Due to the amino acid content found within, it also helps provide a sustained energy level throughout the day, which is why it’s known as the ‘meditative’ drink.
  • Free From – sugar, dairy, gluten, nuts, low in calories and naturally vegan friendly, it’s everyone’s best friend.
  • Vitamins & Minerals – without getting super technical and scientific, matcha can help detoxify and enhance wellbeing – the way it’s grown in the shade helps increase the chlorophyll in the leaves, which is known to be a main natural detoxifying agent for the body.  Matcha is rich in Vitamin C, Selenium, chromium and Zinc.
